“The greatest gift is a passion for reading.” – Elizabeth Hardwick.
Modern Classics is a blog started by CJ Levinson in 2008. I’m 24 and a writer from Sydney, Australia. The blog features reviews and commentary of the latest books I have read, as well as reviews of movies and music.
Modern Classics spun off from my main blog to collect my reviews in one place; it was also a way to keep track of all the books I read in a year so I wouldn’t forget them. After a while I found that I wanted to talk about my other interests as well, so I expanded the blog to include movies and music. I tend to revisit classic works for my music and film reviews, while my book reviews are of the latest books.
I read most genres and some of my favourite authors include Stephen King, Cormac McCarthy, Kazuo Ishiguro, Janette Turner Hospital and Kelly Link. Some of my favourite movies are Lost in Translation, Pan’s Labyrinth, Metropolis, Juno and Finding Neverland. Some of my favourite musicians are U2, Coldplay, KT Tunstall, Sarah Blasko, Nick Cave and Fleetwood Mac.
I try to be honest with all my reviews but feel free to let me know if you think I got something wrong. I also love suggestions for books to read or movies to watch, so if you have a favourite or something you think I’d like, let me know.
Thanks for stopping by, and feel free to check out my other blog, A Writer’s Life, if you’re interested.
